Today’s post is an excerpt from a post by Tim Brownson, Life Coach and author of The Discomfort Zone blog. You’ll have to read almost the entire post to understand why I chose the title, and why I am suggesting that writing your own obituary might be the best idea you’ve heard in a while.
Do You Think You Can Change?
I’m sure you’ve heard people saying such things as “People don’t change” ” A leopard never changes its spots” or “The apple doesn’t fall very far from the tree” and you’ve probably nodded your head sagely and agreed.
The only reason there is truth to such statements is because people believe there is truth to them.
Many people like to think radical personal growth isn’t possible, because that allows them to abdicate any responsibility to implement it. Why would anybody attempt something that they genuinely thought was impossible? It’s the easy option.
Fortunately, though, it’s a big fat lie propagated by people who want to see the status quo retained. There is a natural human aversion to change and if people can resist it and fool themselves into believing it’s not possible, then so much the better.

Okay, just one more post today, and again, it comes from Andrea at Empowered Soul. Her very first sentence serves as an intention that is so incredibly powerful that I have highlighted it in red to get your attention. Before I shut up and let you read Andrea’s piece, a quick reminder that using intention to create always requires letting go of preconceived ideas about how your intention will manifest and what it may look like in the process of manifesting. You will see why I took a moment to share this reminder as you read this piece….from Andrea:
“Inspire me with right action at the right time.” This is what I’ve been requesting from my Spirit Guides and Higher Self lately. It has become a mantra of sorts. At first glance, it seems like such a simple request. Nothing could be further from the truth.
What is “right” action, anyway?
Right action can never be defined from outside of our own unique perspective. It is action that supports not only our intention, but also serves our authentic self-expression and our spiritual growth. That’s a pretty tall order! Our “right” action will never be the same from one day to another, and it will never be the same as anyone else’s “right” action.

Listen up, fellow travelers. Here is THE secret to CHANGE, explained well enough by Andrea at Empowered Soul that I don’t need to add a thing:
We all encounter negative situations from time to time. At first, we may do our best to ignore them. Eventually, we try to overcome them. Sometimes we’re successful. At other times, we struggle. Sometimes we run away, only to have the same situation pop up in a different guise all over again. It seems that the solution to some issues perpetually eludes us. And so we may resign ourselves to that particular set of life circumstances.
There is a key ingredient to creating real and lasting change that we may be missing out on: Taking ownership. With every unpleasant situation we encounter, we must ask ourselves why we may have attracted it into our lives. Often, what we are experiencing now is the manifestation of a mechanism that we ourselves created. These are programs and patterns of thought or emotion that once upon a time served us well, but now have no place in our lives.

Today, I share with you a post written by Lori Deschene at SeeingGood.com. The subject is Sustainable Optimism, and the path involves accepting the necessity of feeling bad. Take it away, Lori:
Contrary to popular belief, even positive people can’t heal wounds with platitudes. “Everything happens for a reason” doesn’t erase the pain of divorce. “This too shall pass” doesn’t soften the blow of a death. That’s not to say inspirational words aren’t helpful-I should know; I tweet them ad nauseum. It’s just that they have no meaning if deep down you feel angry, bitter, or resentful. Sometimes before you can think positively you have to feel and express something negative. As someone who prefers to avoid uncomfortable feelings, I know this is oftentimes difficult and scary.
And you may think it’s not healthy. We all know the dangers of indulging certain emotions. For example, excessive anger can lead you to a heart attack and extreme sadness could spiral into depression. The problem is we tend to respond to our feelings with more feeling instead of transforming them into positive action.

From Christine Delorey, master numerologist at Creative Numerology and writer extraordinaire, this enlightening piece written in November 2008:
The 11:11 Equation
With 11:11 occurring on the calendar this week, I have received many questions about these numbers, but I have to admit that it’s not the easiest of topics to articulate. The answer lies in the sum of 11, which is 2. And 2 is the number of connections. Therefore reading this sequence is like a never ending game of ‘connect the dots’.
The tendency of 11 is to illuminate or ‘shed light’, and it is certainly revealing that our desire for ease and simplicity has caused us to reduce our capacity to understand. Collectively, we have become lazy and easily distracted when it comes to learning anything NEW! We’re not discovering any more. We’re just hashing out the same old stuff, and think creativity is a matter of finding new ways to rehash it. We’re recycling our creativity, which means that creativity is stifled – and where we should be recycling and taking a far more responsible stance, we’ve been stifling the planet herself, suffocating her under a seeming impenetrable blanket of rubbish that we continue to produce and throw away!
The more deeply I look into this sequence of numbers, the more I see it as both a reflection of humanity’s evolving energy, and an inevitable effect of what we ourselves call the ‘digital age’. The entire planet is awash in an ocean of zeros and ones which make up the binary code of our computerized lives. Who is to say whether the two center dots in 11:11 are reflections of zeros, and that 11:11 is actually digital energy identifying itself through its own linguistic system. There is a connection there with something else I am seeing, which I will express a little later.
